Terms
Last updated: 17 May 2026
When you enrol with Tahawi Institute, you agree to the terms below. They cover how we teach, what we ask of you, and what you can expect from us. They apply to all students of the Arabic Light, Arabic Intensive, and ʿĀlimiyyah Programmes, and will be updated as our offering expands.
About us
Tahawi Institute is an educational institute teaching classical Islamic sciences in the Hanafi tradition. Our campus is at Myrdle Street, Whitechapel, London E1 1HL, with teaching on weekday evenings and at weekends.
Enrolment
- Programmes are open to applicants aged 16 and over. Applicants under 18 require parent or guardian consent at enrolment.
- Registering interest through the website is not an offer of a place. Places are confirmed by Tahawi Institute after a brief admissions conversation.
- We may decline an application where the applicant’s background or readiness does not match the programme’s entry requirements.
- An offer of a place is conditional on payment of the admission and books fee and on agreement to these terms.
What we offer
- We deliver the published curriculum to the standard set out on the relevant programme page.
- Where a teacher is unavailable for a session, we will arrange a substitute or reschedule the session where possible. A substitute cannot always be guaranteed; in that case, the session is rescheduled or the material covered in a subsequent class.
- We give reasonable notice of any change to the timetable, venue, or curriculum. Material changes are emailed to enrolled students and posted on the home page at least 30 days before they take effect.
- We keep your personal data securely and process it in line with our Privacy Policy.
- We respond to enquiries sent through the contact form or to our published email addresses within a reasonable time, typically a few working days.
Fees and payment
- All fees become payable at the end of the two-week trial period (see “Trial period and withdrawal” below), once you confirm you wish to continue with the programme.
- The headline annual fee for each programme, and the per-term alternative, are listed on the relevant programme page. Programme pages are the source of truth for current pricing; this document is not.
- A one-off admission and books fee of £150 is payable at the end of the trial period alongside course fees. It covers the cost of core books (approximately £100), provision of your @tahawi.org email account, and enrolment administration.
- Fees may be paid yearly in advance or per term. Yearly payment may attract a small discount where indicated on the programme page.
- Once due, fees must be paid on time. Persistent non-payment beyond a reasonable grace period may result in withdrawal from the programme.
- A sibling discount may be available where multiple members of the same household enrol. Details are confirmed at enrolment.
- We do not currently accept donations or unsolicited contributions in lieu of fees. Where you face genuine financial hardship, write to admin@tahawi.org — we will see what we can do.
Trial period and withdrawal
A two-week trial period applies from the start of your teaching. During the trial, no fees are due. You may withdraw at any time during the trial by writing to admin@tahawi.org — nothing is owed. This arrangement also satisfies your statutory right to cancel a distance contract within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
If you continue past the trial, you are enrolled for the academic year (or the term/period set out on the relevant programme page), and the full schedule of fees becomes payable.
Refunds after the trial period are not provided as a matter of course. You have had two weeks to assess whether the programme suits you, and the institute commits its capacity, staff, and resources on the basis of your continued enrolment. In exceptional circumstances — serious illness, family emergency, or relocation — write to admin@tahawi.org; management will consider a partial refund on its merits.
We may withdraw a student in cases of persistent unauthorised absence, repeated breach of the code of conduct (see Safeguarding), or persistent non-payment of fees. Students and parents will be given clear notice of any conduct concern and an opportunity to respond before suspension or withdrawal. Fees paid before such withdrawal are not automatically refunded; management will consider the circumstances on application.
What we ask of you
When you enrol with us, you agree to:
- Attend classes regularly and arrive on time. Persistent unauthorised absence may affect your continuation on the programme.
- Engage with the curriculum: complete set reading, homework, and assessments.
- Treat teaching staff and fellow students with respect.
- Conduct yourself, in the classroom and at Tahawi events, in line with the code of conduct described on the Safeguarding page.
- Notify the institute of any change to your contact details or circumstances that affects your study.
Intellectual property
- The institute’s curriculum materials, syllabuses, and bespoke handouts are the property of Tahawi Institute and are provided to enrolled students for personal study only. Sharing or reproducing them requires our permission — write to admin@tahawi.org if you have a reason to ask.
- Classical texts taught on our programmes are in the public domain and remain so.
- Recordings of classes are made for the institute’s internal use only and may not be redistributed.
Our liability
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms is limited to the total fees paid by you in the 12 months before the claim arises. This limit does not apply to:
- liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- breach of your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015;
- any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes are emailed to enrolled students and posted on the home page at least 30 days before they take effect.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute is subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
