Tahawi Institute held a five-evening study of Nukhbat al-Fikar, the concise primer on the terminology of ḥadīth by Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī (d. 852 AH), taught by Ml. Syed Fahīm Uddin over one week in the summer holidays.
The course
Nukhbat al-Fikar fī Muṣṭalaḥ Ahl al-Athar sets out how the scholars of ḥadīth classify a report: by the number of its narrators, by the continuity of its chain, and by the conditions under which it is accepted or set aside. The text sits in Year IV of the ʿĀlimiyyah Programme, where it is read alongside the author’s own commentary, Nuzhat al-Naẓar; this course took it on its own over five evenings.
Sessions ran each evening from Monday to Friday, and the course was open to students already at Year II of the ʿĀlimiyyah Programme or beyond. Places were booked in advance, and the first ten students to register received a printed booklet of the text.
